For this project, we were tasked with reinventing the soft cover, hard cover, and page layout of a well known book. I chose the Wonderful Wizard of Oz because ideas starting flowing as soon as I read over the name. I was inspired by the Emerald City and knew I needed to bring in greens and blues for my soft cover design. I also wanted to bring in yellows for the yellow brick rode. I decided to make a modern, illustration approach to my soft cover design. I love the way the text interacts with the buildings. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome of this project, it was a lot of fun to develop!
I had never done page layouts before this project, and it was definitely the most challenging part. It was really cool to learn about the process of book layouts and see the amount of work and thought that goes into it.
My first thumbnail sketches
