Recently, I had the opportunity to connect with an incredible Imagineer who took time out of his busy schedule to walk me through what being a graphic designer for Imagineering truly means. Hearing about the integration of graphic design and architecture was especially inspiring for me as a designer who also loves math and the technical side of design. I had no idea this field existed, but after our conversation, I was so excited to dive into learning more on my own.
To push myself, I decided to create a personal project outside of work. I began by researching what it takes to be an Imagineer, how projects get started, and the essential skills required. From there, I challenged myself to design something that doesn’t yet exist: the marquee for the new Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom. My approach intentionally differs from what Imagineering might currently be doing, as I was inspired by the stunning artistry of Maleficent. I’ve only just begun the digital phase of the project, but I’m thrilled to continue learning and growing as I develop it further!
